About David Stehman

I have been obsessed with drawing since elementary school.

I began my career hand-lettering signs for grocery stores, then was invited to work as a sculptor building models & large-scale exhibits for The Philadelphia Zoo, Academy of Natural Sciences & Royal Academy of Science in London. For almost 20 years I was a lead designer for an award-winning flag & banner company. Along the way, I've illustrated several children's books.

I've always lived in a rural environment & been inspired by my natural surroundings. Birds & forests are dominant themes in much of my work.

My favorite materials are the discarded objects I pick up from streets & sidewalks that I transform into sculptural assemblages.

I now enjoy teaching a variety of art classes to kids and adults and hosting Open Studio sessions at Sweet Mabel.
